It’ll be alright
After 116 editions and two and a half years, I’m retiring This Week in Genesis.
When I first started GenesisWP.guide in April 2015 I did it because I wanted a way to give back something to a community of people that had always helped me so much but I never felt I was able to pay back adequately.
At that time I didn’t feel confident enough to contribute with code (at least at the level of teaching other people or contributing to the development of the Genesis Framework itself).
I also felt that as a community we weren’t promoting ourselves well enough (something that has improved now) so I saw GenesisWP.guide as a way to do that.
During that time I’m proud to say this small commuity newsletter has sent over 75,000 (affiliate free, ad free!) visits to other Genesis related sites and businesses.
I’ve also been honoured to have had amazing support from people across the community (I won’t name names as I’m afraid I will forget somebody, but you know how you are) every week without fail.
As enjoyable as all that has been though I’ve now reached the point where I feel I’d like to focus on fewer things.
It’s true that as well as the weekly updates, I had always hoped to develop the site into more of an ongoing resource, perhaps into a ‘Product Hunt’ style community for Genesis, but I never made the time to do so.
However I’m very glad I did make the time to email you (almost) every week and connect with so many of you I might never have otherwise.
Will This Week in Genesis ever come back? Never say never – you can always come out of retirement – but for now I have no plans to. As for the rest of the site, I will keep it up at least for the near future.
It only remains for me to say thank you so much for your time, attention and contributions. Without all the great work you’ve been doing none of the last two and a half years would have been possible.
Let’s keep Genesis awesome,
PS You won’t hear from me again on the GenesisWP.guide mailing list (unless GenesisWP.guide does ever make a comeback), but if you’d like to stay in touch with what I’m doing you can subscribe to my personal list, stalk me on Twitter and generally stay BFF.
PPS Thank you Dave Barr 🙂
